Up in North Troy for a long weekend. Skied Jay yesterday (fantastic), hopped over the border an easy 20 minutes to Owls Head for today and back to Jay for tomorrow.

I was very impressed with Owls Head. First time there and skiing Quebec in general. Place has some excellent pitch, minimal run out and several great classic Eastern cruisers, a few wide and steep rippers, looked to have a number of cool glades too, but my 5 year old isn't quite up for that yet. Stunning views everywhere you turn. Cheap. $119 Canadian for myself, a 9 and a 5 year old.

Second year doing Jay early April on Indy and we probably will be back again around the same time next season and incorporate either Orford or Sutton next time. If you are planning a trip to Jay, I highly recommend hopping over the border.

Oh, forgot to mention. I would venture that 50+% of the skis I saw were racing skis, both adults and kids. And the people on them all carved very well. Not sure if this is specific to the regulars at Owls Head or it's common in Quebec in general. Definitely very different from what I typically see in the New England with seemingly a majority of skiers on 100+ skis , many of them clueless on carving turns.

That last pic, with Jay in the back, is stunning. I grew up like 90 mins from this place and have never been.

A friend took a very similar picture (Jay in background) from Owl's Head ~6 yrs ago. It is kind of think that an entire ski area ie Owl's Head is hidden on the other side of that bump that is un-missably in view when you're skiing at Jay.

Also, happy eclipse viewing to all the folks who're able to get to good viewing places tomorrow!

Owl’s Head was my 1st choice for my eclipse weekend. But they didn’t allow skiing on eclipse day, while Mont Sutton did. Sutton won.

Quebec has many cool ski mountains. Sadly, it’s a bit far.
